I’ve read many negative views regarding backlink generators and the logic behind these views seems valid: that they would create a lot of spammy links which will have a native impact on a backlink profile and on search engine optimisation. However, I’d never tested backlink generators so I’ve conducted some primary research into these to hopefully help others asking questions around the “backlink generator” topic.
I ran a domain through the below backlink generators in order to make a list of the 257 backlinks which these tried to create.
- sitowebinfo.com
- sitechecker.pro
- smallseotools.com
- duplichecker.com
- theseotools.net
- searchenginereports.net
Over 50% of these links were duplicates. After removing these duplicates, removing the broken URLs and the pages that did not actually contain a backlink, we were left with 27 URLs. That’s just 10.5% of the original links which were valid and actually contained a backlink.
[UPDATE – 4th July 2021 – Almost 2 Years Later] – Since publishing this article back in August 2019, some of the original websites published in this article are now unavailable. After removing the unavailable websites we’re left with 14 links remaining from the original 257 links the generators tried to create. So that’s just 5% of the original links which were valid and actually contained a backlink. I’ve updated the list below showing a breakdown of these links and any changes in rank.
I’ve included a list below of all the valid links that these backlink generators returned, along with their domain rank and URL rank (both extracted from ahrefs.com), and whether the link is Follow or NoFollow.

In conclusion based on this relatively small sample, the number of links generated was only 1 twentyth of the possible links, due to invalid URLs, duplicate links and pages without a link. Instead of actually using the above generators you could just run through the above links that you would like manually to give a faster and more predictable result.
